A snippet did not expand
Click Expando in the menu bar. The line under its name says what it is doing, and Expansion Log shows every attempt with the app it was in and why it did or did not go in. The usual reasons:
- A permission is missing. Expando needs Input Monitoring and Accessibility, including Accessibility's permission to send keystrokes. Choose Welcome & Permissions… from the menu; each row says whether it is on and opens the right page of System Settings.
- An app is asking for a password. While a password field has the keyboard, macOS lets nothing watch typing, so Expando pauses and the menu says which app is holding it. Leave the field, or quit that app if it has held the keyboard for a long time.
- Expansion is off, or off in that app. Check the Expansion row in the menu, then Settings, then Apps. Expando never expands in terminals or password managers.
- Two snippets share an abbreviation. The menu shows a trigger conflict row. Click it to sort them out.
- The trial has ended. Expansion stops until you enter a license key. Your snippets stay on disk either way.
A new Mac
A license covers every Mac signed in to your Apple ID. Install Expando on the new one and paste the same key into Settings, then About, then License.
A lost license key
Write to support@expando.app from the address you bought with, and the key comes back to you.
The newest version
Choose Check for Updates… from Expando’s menu. It also checks once a day by itself, which you can turn off in Settings, then Update.
Refunds
Thirty days from purchase, no questions asked. Write to support@expando.app or ask Paddle, who processed the payment. The details are in the Terms.
Removing Expando
Export any snippets you want to keep, quit Expando from its menu, drag it from Applications to the Trash, and
delete ~/Library/Application Support/Expando. That folder is your snippets, settings and backups:
everything it kept.
